The incident came after Turkish officials accused Greek troops of killing a migrant and injuring five others on Wednesday when they tried to cross the border between the two countries. The Greek government has strongly denied the allegations and called Turkey reporting "false news". Though Greek authorities were also recorded using tear gas and water cannons to stop groups pushing through the border on Friday morning, while the Turkish government fired chemical weapons that could cause breathing difficulties, skin irritation and chest pain, returning to Greek soil.

Turkey says it is deploying 1,000 police special forces on its border to prevent Greek authorities from pushing back migrants. During a visit to Edirne on Thursday, interior minister Suleyman Soylu accused Greece of "persecuting" migrants and refugees. He also said that Turkey "will not allow it".
