Hall of fame to recognize African American educators

Nominations are open for the Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame.

Eligible candidates could have worked at the elementary, middle-school, high-school or college level.

All nomination forms must be postmarked by June 5 for the 10th-annual induction ceremony Sept. 25. Nomination forms are available at oaaehof.org.

The Oklahoma African American Educators Hall of Fame recognizes significant contributions from African American educators, administrators and support personnel. Candidates must have lived in Oklahoma during their career in education, and support personnel must have worked in that capacity for at least five years.

Inductees must be distinguished professionally in education and should have contributed to and influenced the education and lives of students. To qualify for the Hall of Fame, a candidate should have been a community worker or leader.

President Donnie L. Nero Sr. has asked nominations to consider educators who served during Oklahoma’s early statehood.

“It is imperative that those individuals are recognized for their service,” the nominating committee said in a news release.
