The shooting happened about 2:07 a.m., shortly before residents called 911 to say that about eight to 10 gunshots had been heard in the area of Lew Muckle Elementary School, said V.I. Police spokesman Glen Dratte.

Personnel at Luis Hospital called 911 about 10 minutes later to report that a man entered the hospital with a gunshot wound to his legs, Dratte said.

The man provided few details about the circumstances of the shooting, Dratte said.

Victim identified in St. Thomas murder

Police have identified a man recently stabbed to death in a fight over a crack pipe on a St. Thomas street.

Police named Ashley Browne, 55, as the victim of the stabbing in Savan.

Police previously arrested Renique Francis, 22, in connection with the death, and charged her with second-degree murder, third-degree assault and carrying or using dangerous weapons, according to court documents.

Browne’s murder was the 10th reported in the territory this year, and the fourth reported on St. Thomas.

Officials have so far reported 14 homicides in the territory, including one vehicular homicide.
