Briefs Church March

Church briefs are devoted to news of upcoming special events and activities for the area religious community.

* Lenten Dinners, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish social hall in Abbottstown on Fridays, March 15, 22, 29 and April 5 and 12, from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m., followed by Stations of the Cross in the church at 7 p.m.

* An AYCE Breakfast Buffet will be held on Saturday, March 9, from 6 to 10 a.m. at Tom’s Creek United Methodist Church, Emmitsburg, Md. Children under age 5 eat free. Questions, call the church at 301-447-3171.

* MOPS (Mothers of preschoolers, ages birth to 5) will meet March 13, from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. at Gettysburg Church of the Nazarene, 1110 Fairfield Rd., Gettysburg. Child care provided. Call 717-334-3209 for more information.{/span}

* The Ecumenical Clergy Group from the Abbottstown/East Berlin area will host Lenten Lunches on Wednesdays from noon until 1 p.m. Each church offers a simple lunch. A free will offering for the local food pantry is accepted, but not required. The first lunch is set for March 13, at Zwingli UCC, East Berlin, with Pastor Shawn Berkebile preaching on Healing of Creation. All are welcome.

* St. Francis Xavier Parish will host its 8th annual Lenten Fish Fry Dinners on Friday, March 15, 22, 29, April 5, 12, from 5-7 p.m., Xavier Center, 465 Table Rock Road, Gettysburg. Dine-in or Take-out. Children under 5 eat free. 717-334-4048,

* Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4200 Carlisle Road, Gardners, will serve a chicken cordon bleu dinner on Saturday, March 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. Dinner is free for those under 3 years of age. Call 717-486-7270 in advance for tickets. Proceeds will benefit the Christian Endeavor Retreat and Camp Kirchenwald.

* Boy Scout Troop 501 will host its second Annual Pancake Breakfast, Saturday, March 30, 8 to 11 a.m., at Redeemer’s United Church of Christ, 107 E, King Street, Littlestown, in the handicapped-accessible social hall. Tickets are available in the church office.

* St. Mark Lutheran Church in Hanover, is presenting a Seder Remembrance on April 3. The evening begins in the fellowship hall at 6 p.m. with a soup supper. At 6:30 p.m., the Seder Remembance will be given. An explanation of this Passover meal will be given by a guest speaker from “Jews for Jesus” to show how the elements relate to our Christian communion. Everyone is welcome. * Discovering Christ: An exciting 7-week series of teaching and exploring answers will be held Tuesdays, April 23 to June 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Abbottstown. * The Adventure Club of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Abbottstown, will take a pilgrimage trip to St. John Paul II Shrine in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, April 30. For trip cost, which includes dinner, and to reserve a seat call Janet at 717-633-9384 before March 17.

* A Community Potluck Dinner meets at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month at Under The Horizon, 2650 Biglerville Road, Gettysburg. If able, bring a dish to share. The studio will provide water, coffee and place settings. Call 717-752-4593 for more information.

* First Baptist Church of Gettysburg, 1015 Chambersburg Road, holds a college-aged ministry CAM (ages 18- 25) every Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

* Day of Pilgrimage is held Sunday through Friday starting with a 1:30 p.m. Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 339 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Md.

* The Clothing Closet at Gettysburg United Methodist Church, High Street, Gettysburg, is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* The Gettysburg Food Pantry, 153 N. Stratton St. is open every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

* Upper Adams Food Pantry serves soup/sandwiches plus food assistance every 2nd and 4th Monday from 6-7:30 p.m., at Centenary Methodist Church, 99 North Main Street, Biglerville. For more info, call 717-677-6951.

* Mt. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 4200 Carlisle Road, Gardners, has an outdoor food pantry on the parking lot of the church for those in need. Donations greatly appreciated, but no glass or canned goods accepted during winter months, due to freezing.

* Immaculate Conception Church Thrift Shop, 5 Carlisle St., New Oxford, is having a clothing sale — Buy Two, Get One (of equal of lesser value) Free. Shop hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 717-624-1272.

* The St. Vincent Church Thrift Shop, rear 224 Third St., Hanover, hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

* Free Fitness Program at Lower Marsh Creek Presbyterian Church, 1865 Knoxlyn Road, Gettysburg, on Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m.
